Experiences
- Worked on several computational social sciences research projects at Dr. Paramveer Dhillion’s research group, which involved applications of a variety of machine learning and NLP models on social media data.
- Developed a better understanding of some machine learning and NLP algorithms and gained skills in applying those algorithms to real world problems.
- Enhanced my ability in programming, data analysis, training and interpreting machine learning models, data visualization, model visualization, communication, and time management. Acquired experience in writing and submitting conference papers.
- Improved skills in programming with the following tools: spacy, nltk, gensim, fasttext, pytorch, huggingface/transformers, statsmodels, matplotlib, hadoop, pyspark, Twitter API, Google Translation API.
- Worked as IA for SI671 Data Mining: Methods and Applications (21FA), responsible for grading the homework and answering students’ questions.
- Worked as IA for SIADS 642 Introduction to Deep Learning (21SP, 21WI), responsible for grading the homework.
- Improved my communication and management skills as well as my understanding of the course materials.

- ICPC Team Member at the University of Wisconsin - Madison during 10/2019 - 12/2019.
- Collaborated and communicated with team members to learn to solve complex algorithm problems and prepared for the ICPC contest.
- Assisted the class by answering students’ questions and grading assignments and tests.
- Studied in the Research Center of Massive Language Information Processing and Cloud Computing Application under Dr. Heyan Huang in Beijing Institute of Technology.
- Completed a research project titled “Research on smartphone-based fall detection system for the elderly” and released an android application based on the research.
- Learned knowledge in machine learning and acquired skills in conducting machine learning researches, writing papers, giving research presentations, and thesis defense. Improved my communication skills and time management skills.
